Asana The word “asana” means a posture, a steady position of the body.Asana is defined as "posture;" its literal meaning is "seat." Originally, the asanas served as stable postures for prolonged meditation. More than just stretching, asanas open the energy channels, chakras and psychic centers of the body. Asanas purify and strengthen the body and control and focus the mind. Asana is one of the eight limbs of classical Yoga, which states that asana should be steady and comfortable, firm yet relaxed.

Benefits of Asanas The practice of asanas promotes:
muscle flexibility
bone strength
hard tissue strength.
massages the internal organs
brings various internal and glandular functions into balance. In the Yoga Sutra, Patanjali suggests that the only requirement for practising asanas is to be "steady and comfortable". The body should be held firm yet relaxed, and the practitioner should not experience discomfort of any kind. Tightness or tension observed within the body should be consciously relaxed. Breathing should be natural, through the nose and into the belly.
